I am a Neo-Romantic composer who has had the joy and pleasure of spending the last 30 years writing, orchestrating, arranging, and recording music.
My experience as a composer began in 1993 with its roots in the Church, where I first wrote original music for liturgical services. Over the years, my interests have grown to include instrumental works of various styles, and music for multimedia.
My music has been used recently in a PBS series called A Taste of History.
I have just completed the film score for "Sea Star: The Diaries of Anne Bonny." You can visit their website and learn more about Anne Bonny at www.seastarannebonny.com. The book, by Noel Knight, is currently available on Amazon Kindle, and the music is available at Tunecore. The video game and graphic novel are in production. The film will be next, and I will keep you undated. You can view the promo video with my original score in the "Original Music" section here on my website.
In 2021, I began a long term project of setting the poetry of May Benedict Maye to music. Mrs. Maye was my Great Great Aunt, and her book of poetry, Blue Sky, was published in 1935. I have released the first three pieces; Blue Sky in Feb. 2021, I Walk At Dawn in May of 2022, and We Pass This Way But Once in May 2023. Blue Sky is comprised of 36 poems of various lengths, so I anticipate this project will take a while to finish.
In 2014, I was honored to be asked to compose an original score for the short film, Dreamcatchers. Written and directed by Anthony Lawrence and produced by the Motion Picture and Television Fund, Dreamcatchers made its debut in the 2015 Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival, and also the Valley Film Festival in No. Hollywood.
In 2010, I was proud to be asked to write the music for the Tim Robbins stage play of Dead Man Walking based on the book by Sr. Helen Prejean. The score was later endorsed by The DMW School Theater Project, and performed by educational institutions around the country.
As a music educator for 15 years, it was often necessary for me to arrange and orchestrate music to accommodate the ages and abilities of the players, as well as the instrumentation of the ensembles. It was a challenge that I came to enjoy. In 2012, I was commissioned to compose a band arrangement of Hail Holy Queen as performed in the 1992 Touchstone film, Sister Act. I orchestrated the arrangement for the specific instrumentation and levels of experience of the players in the 20 - piece school band, and had great fun attending the outstanding performance of the St. Isidore School Band, and meeting the musicians and their director Pat Crossen! Over the following seven years I created four more arrangements for the band, and was invited to play with them for their final concert in 2019.
Throughout my career, I have utilized a variety compositional formats. I got my start composing for instruments, voice, and live performance, and have taken great pride in the music production skills I have developed and honed over the years, so that I can stay in tune with the technology of today's television and film industry.
